Hohoho Bringing Awesome Back: Swiss Chalet Alpine China
How could yous non dearest Swiss Alpine Chalet china? Yes, I'm talking close the china of everyone's grandma, amongst it's circular pattern of trees too leaves inward nighttime blue, moss light-green too lite turquoise blue.
Known equally dime store dinnerware of the 1960's, this china—Mar-crest Swiss Chalet Alpine dinnerware—was oftentimes used equally an incentive to instruct shoppers to store at local grocery stores. Stores would offering pieces of this dinnerware laid upward for pennies to shoppers who showed build loyalty past times shopping those stores too collecting points or spending a certainly amount of coin inward those stores.
I've seen this china on websites categorized equally Mid-Century Modern dinnerware, too it is of course of written report from that era/time period, but I personally don't intend of it equally that "style" at all. Why? First, the mode of the leaves too trees are non equally geometric too abstract equally typical Mid-Century Modern (MCM) smooth-line styles. I intend that since this china was produced too pop during that fourth dimension current - that folks simply automatically categorized it as Mid-Century Modern.
But to me, the design—and past times pattern I hateful the china pattern motif itself— tells a much dissimilar story. Yes it's a repeating pattern, but too then is nearly every other china pattern. But similar I noted earlier, it's hardly abstract or geometric, such equally the Cannonsburg Temporama pattern shown below.

Cannonsburg Temporama - an event of a Mid-century Modern Atomic design
The Swiss Chalet Alpine pattern completely consists of images from nature. There are bluish too light-green leaves too trees, too smaller lite turquoise daisy-like flowers. There are no space-age, atomic, or futuristic designs inward the pattern. I suppose it's the shape of the dinnerware pieces themselves, too the fourth dimension current inward which they were produced that categorize it equally MCM.
Either way, it's a keeper! I encounter this pattern tied into my ain mode past times combining it amongst lots of shades of earthy browns too warm copper.
I imagine the colors inward the pattern equally the brilliant pops that boundary out to yous from an earthy, neutral tabular array that verges on Rustic or Arts too Crafts style.
I intend the nature pattern itself leans much to a greater extent than towards hippie, bohemian styles of the 60's! And I dearest it!
What attain yous think?
Do yous similar this pattern?
Does it convey dorsum whatsoever memories for you?
Have a cracking week!
